Recently we have entered into a collaborative arrangement with some people we know to create a new service called Transforming Leaders.
Transforming LeadersThose of you who are already familiar with NLP language patterns will recognise the conversational ambiguity in the name.
( Conversational ambiguity is where words have several possible meanings or interpretations )
So far we have identified at least 4 meanings here.
Transforming leaders
= Leaders that Transform
= We are the Leaders in Transforming
= We are transforming leaders and who and what they are
= We lead others into being transformed ie: leading from the front
For a while I too have struggled with what life is all about and what the blocks were. Yes this even happens to NLP trainers because we are human too and also get to feel stuff.
After months of discussions with friends and colleagues we identified what we think are the two biggest issues facing humankind right now.
1/ A lack of true leadership because current leadership is using outdated thinking
and
2/ A lack of belief that we are powerful enough to effect change.
Now I may be projecting my own doubts here but I think that for a large part of the population this is true.
Let’s start by defining what a leader is. There is so much written already on this that we could be here for months so this is my definition. It’s shorthand but will do.
“A leader is some one that has the belief, skills or knowledge and the flexibility to assist to listen to others and to demonstrate how to solve their problems without creating further problems and is prepared to do what is ethically right to ensure that the challenge is resolved happily.
A leader has foresight based on needs that must be met now and in the future and a vision of how to achieve what must be done”
Now I am more than open to discuss the definition with you as that’s what this post is. It’s a discussion piece. And that’s another aspect of being a transforming leader is listening.
You can find out more at my facebook page which is still very new and a bit unkempt…

The Power Of Our Thoughts
"All that you accomplish or fail to accomplish with your life is the direct result of your thoughts. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you."
James Allen (1864 - 1912)
This quote by James Allen is just one of the numerous ways that people have expressed their belief that our thoughts create our lives. And you may have heard or read other quotes, basically saying the same. Even the Buddha had this to say about the power of our thoughts:
"What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind. Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts. But once mastered, no one can help you as much." Buddha (568 - 488 BC)
As an NLP trainer, I presuppose that we are in charge of our thoughts. This means that, as the Buddha above says, we create our life by how we think. It also means that, if we're in charge of our thoughts, we're in charge of the results we get. The problem, though, is: how do we change our thinking, especially if we're so used to think negative thoughts? If you don't believe me when I say we're used to negative thinking, just switch on the TV or glance at the newspapers. Negativity abounds in those media. One way that helped me to switch from negative to more positive thinking is... ...Gratitude. Being grateful for what I have now, for example, puts me very firmly in the here and now. And what's really interesting is, when I'm grateful I feel happy and contented. Right in the moment. When thinking positively you feel positive and this means you do more positive things. And when you experience more positive results as a consequence, you will have more positive beliefs which will in turn again affect your thinking. And overall, your life will be so much more positive. Recently, we laid my father-in-law to rest. And it occurred to me that life is too short to be miserable and unhappy. Your life is too precious to be fearful or worrying about things that haven't happened yet. And we don't really have time to complain about other people's shortcomings. There are various NLP skills to help you change from thinking and feeling negative

Nlp Tips # 2-The hidden benefits of NOT Getting Your Goals
Now !
Today’s Tip is about hidden benefits..
Now by that I don't mean the sort of hidden benefits that the central banks are dishing out to each other.
It's more subtle than that. Let's jump right in and take a look When I'm working with a team or an individual and they are not getting the results or the changes they say they want
I always ask them this question. it's a little bit unusual... "What are the benefits of NOT achieving this?" It could be that - They didn’t have to do what they say they will do - They aren’t held accountable - They get to moan about how terrible things are - They get to stay in what is comfortable & familiar -It may be that they get a sympathetic ear from other people about their "struggle"... These are all ‘hidden benefits’ that they would have to find other ways to get if they achieved their goal. There are always hidden benefits In almost any situation, there will be hidden benefits. If these benefits are uncovered, you can find other ways to satisfy them AND achieve your goals more easily. However, if you are not aware of the hidden benefits of a situation, it can make it more of a struggle to change. So, with regard to a current goal you wish to achieve or change you wish to make… Ask yourself "What are the benefits of NOT doing this?"
and pay attention to your answers. You can look for other hidden benefits by asking "What am I getting from the current situation?" The answers you give yourself about these questions may seem a bit strange or perhaps even embarrassing, but once you've identified them, you can begin to find new ways to still get these hidden benefits AND achieve your goal. Every benefit addresses a need or want A benefit is only a benefit if it addresses a need or want, so the next step is to identify the needs or wants that the hidden benefit is supplying. You can ask "What is the need or want that this benefit is satisfying?" Anthony Robbins talks about six basic human needs, so if you’re having trouble identifying the need or want, check this list for inspiration. Robbins’ six are paraphrased as follows: - Love & connection to other people - Contribution to something bigger such as your family or community. A cause that you are passionate about - Predictability, familiarity & security - Unpredictability & surprise - Growth & learning. Personal development. - A sense of importance One of the presuppositions of NLP is that every behaviour has a positive intention. Now The presuppositions of NLP are not necessarily true, but it is useful to act as if they are true in certain situations. It can be very freeing to realise that there has been a positive intention behind something you have been perceiving as "failure" or ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’. Once you know which needs or wants you’ve been satisfying, you can dream up many more even better ways to feel satisfied in the future. So imagine what it will be like to ask yourself
"How can I still get these benefits while I’m achieving my goal?"
And then ask yourself that question. The odds are that once you start to contemplate new ways of doing things, you’ll often come up with even more ways of getting those benefits than the ones you currently have. Sometimes people will say that there is no benefit in the current situation. NOW, If that happens, check how long things have been the way they are. If it’s more than a few weeks, then the hidden benefits should be familiar. And...With regard to not getting your goal… Ask "What are the benefits of NOT achieving this?"
to identify hidden benefits of the current situation. Ask "What is the need or want that this benefit is satisfying?" Ask "How can I get this benefit while I’m achieving my goal?"
to identify better ways of satisfying the wants & needs. Remember to use your imagination – there’s always another way of meeting your wants and needs.

NLP Tips and NLP Videos
NLP Tips and videos
Hi and welcome to NLP tips and NLP videos.
My goal is to create a useful and easily actionable tip for you to use every day for the next 12 months and maybe longer. Who knows where this may lead us to ?
Anyway please enjoy and I am encouraging you to comment and perhaps even like what get's posted here.
I have deliberately kept most of the videos to less than twenty minutes in length which means that by the end of the twelve month program you won't have spent enough time learning NLP to qualify as a practitioner. That takes 126 hours. You will only have done 121.
However all that said you will know one heck of a lot about NLP and how to apply it in just about any area of your life.
This includes relationships, business, sales, education, teaching and learning, family and friends, your community, health and fitness, sex, coaching counseling, therapy and change work plus your own personal development.
Did I miss anything out. Probably !
If you're not sure if you can apply NLP to your areas of life or just what you're curious about then you can contact me via the contact Mike page. Usually I will reply to you within 24 hours unless I'm travelling.
Cheers,
Mike

An Ode to Your Brain
An Ode To Your Brain
I came across this video on You Tube and have to share it with you. It's called "Ode to the Brain" and I think it is wonderful.
A simple 3 minute and 42 second introduction to Neurology set to music and beautiful images.
your brain stores masses of information. The human brain is a mass of jelly you can hold in your hand and yet it can contemplate the vastness of interstellar space.
The brain encodes what we know in cells called Neurons and there is something like 100 Trillion neural connections
Your brain contains the equivalent of 20 million volumes of information and has been described as a very big place inside a very small space.
Information flows in as energy and explodes into a sensory experience.
No longer at the mercy of the reptile brain we can change ourselves. Think of the possibilities
mp3: http://symphonyofscience.com "Ode to the Brain" is the ninth episode in the Symphony of Science music video series. Through the powerful words of scientists Carl Sagan, Robert Winston, Vilayanur Ramachandran, Jill Bolte Taylor, Bill Nye, and Oliver Sacks, it covers different aspects the brain including its evolution, neuron networks, folding, and more. The material sampled for this video comes from Carl Sagan's Cosmos, Jill Bolte Taylor's TED Talk, Vilayanur Ramachandran's TED Talk, Bill Nye's Brain episode, BBC's "The Human Body", Oliver Sachs' TED Talk, Discovery Channel's "Human Body: Pushing the Limits", and more.

Chemically engineered intelligence ?
There are serious ethical questions surrounding this video I came across on Facebook.
Our values as a society will determine which psychopharmaceuticals and (down the road) which genetic enhancement technologies we choose to develop and how we use them.
That's what concerns Dr. Paul Root Wolpe, senior Bioethicist at NASA and a pioneer in the field of neuroethics. Peering into his children's and grandchildren's future, he sees an America that rewards competitiveness and productivity over relationship-building, and suspects that future generations will face intense pressure to enhance their minds and bodies in unhealthy ways.
The politics of technophilia vs technophobia aside, our power to manipulate our brains and genes is increasing dramatically – and it raises serious ethical questions.
Here is a link to the rest of the article. If you have any interest in Neurology or NLP you'll find it fascinating. Enjoy..

Why you need mirror neurons to make NLP skills work...
http://nlp-courses.org
The basis of all NLP skills and all communication between individuals and species comes from our mirror neurons. Found in the frontal cortex of the brain they will light up when someone else does some sort of action.
It is through the copying actions that we emulate in others that we learn how to use speech and tools and cultural structures. In short, without mirror neurons you would be unable to understand the video or what is written here.
Scientists now think that mirror neurons emerged in humans approximately 100,000 years ago and allowed us to create fire, tools and agriculture as well as shelter and language.
Mirror neurons also allow us to experience empathy even when just observing another individual.
NLP is more than just types of communication skills..
NLP is...?
In a recent survey of NLP practitioners, they were asked to answer the question "What makes NLP great ?"
The instructions said that they could only answer with one word.
Here are some of the answers and a video too that I uploaded to YouTube
According to the survey, NLP is.
Celebration
Insight
NLP is Fascination and exciting
It's about attitude, connection and well being
Success
Enlightenment and
Empowerment
NLP is awareness, self accountability and faith
For others NLP is the Meta model ( relax you'll be learning about that tomorrow ) reframing and
Empowerment.
Discovery connection, growth and change were other answers that we got. As was future hope, freedom and rapport.
Yet others responded by saying that for them NLP is positive, illumination, choice and contentment. Understanding and new life choice was one answer. ( Some respondents were so excited that they needed more than one word...Nuff said ! )
Most said that increased awareness and relationships are part of what NLP is..
So there you have it... It has begun or maybe something just ended ?
What would you like NLP to be great for for you ? Let me know with your comments..
And I hope you enjoyed the video because that describes what is great about my experiences of.. @expono @evernote @facebook @hi5 @identi @jaiku @kewego @kodak @myspace @photobucket @plaxo @plerb @smugmug @sugarsync @tinypic @wordpress @yahoo @zooomr

Where do leaders get their leads from ?
http://transformingleaders.net/blog/2011/11/23/where-do-leaders-get-their-leads-from/
The Scottish comedian Billy Connelly once asked
“How does the person that drives the snow plough get to work in the morning ?”
It’s a provocative question that forces you to consider all of the options.
Perhaps they get to work on a skiddoo or by sleigh. Maybe they have husky’s or reindeer to get them there. A secret tunnel perhaps.
I’m sure that you can come up with dozens of other possibilities on this.
I figure that a smart snow plough driver takes the machine home with them. That’s what allows them to clear snow. Being in that prepared state at all times. Having the equipment ready so that they can fulfill their role.
It’s a bit like leadership isn’t it.
Leaders tap into their own place inside that allows them to lead from. They have their own machinery that they carry with them that allows them to lead. It’s not physical machinery. It’s an attitude of this has to be done and I will take on the role of doing it. I will be prepared in every way I can so that this will be done.

NLP skills-Pointing exercise part 2----So what happened and why ?
NLP skills-Pointing exercise 2-So what happened and why ?
http://www.transformingcommunication.com An explanation of how NLP skills are used to change the results that you get simply by changing the way that you talk to your self.
Evelyne explains what Michael did when he took our trainees through the pointing exercise at a live NLP training in Thailand. The nlp pointing exercise gives you insights into some of the ways that you can use NLP to alter not just how you experience your life. You can also positively affect the results that you get simply by using the right messages. And not just with your self either...
The NLP pointing Exercise-Try this at home !!
The pointing exercise is a nice metaphor for how NLP works. Inside that is. This video was shot in the lounge of our home in Thailand when we ran a transforming communication course for our friends over a four day period. You can find out more at http://www.transforming communication.com where we have the worlds first online version of this evolutionary training.
It is based on the work of Dr Richard Bolstad and the late Margot Hamblett, the co-creators of the original offline course.
As I say in the title. Please please try this at home so you can join the thousands of others who have been amazed by themselves...
Life is better when it's fun,
NLP Eye accesssing cues...
http://www.transformingcommunication.com
A Demonstration of how different eye movements show which part of the brain is being used to access memories or to create internal representations. This is one of the nlp skills that are taught on nlp courses and in our transforming communication course.
It is useful when communicating with others if you know their preferred method for accessing information. Sometimes people are "reversed."
Watch Evelyne's eyes and see where they go as I ask questions of her.

Transforming leaders Inspire
http://transformingleaders.net/blog/2011/11/17/transforming-leaders-inspire/
I have been pondering even more on what leadership really is and have realised a few things, here.
Many present day politicians talk about their plan. Very few talk about their dream. Their vision for the future of the community.
Landmark education states that to get somebody to do something you must touch move and inspire them. So how do you do that ?
Landmark says that everything in this world only exists in the realm of possibility. There are no definites in life. No sure fire winners despite what the talking heads of advertising tell you. There is no tooth fairy either.
Sorry… that was your mum and dad.!
So how do you create a compelling message that the world will be touched moved and inspired by ?
How about if you were to discover a possibility you could create for your self that other people also resonate with and could get inspired by. I believe, from memory that the way you put it is this.
“To create a possibility for yourself in just such a way that other people get that possibility for them self”
By the way a possibility is just a vision and maybe you can use this frame for creating your vision statements.
So let’s unpack what’s going on here. (Linguistically that is ) and then I’ll look at the emotional aspects of transformational leadership. There are some presuppositions in the sentence. The first being that there are possibilities out there and that You can create them. The other inherent presupposition is that these possibilities will be so powerful that they will not only touch, move and inspire you . They will inspire others enough that they will “get it” that it’s possible for them too.
So what are some of the qualities of inspirational leadership?
1/ It’s not about you. No truly great leader ever did anything that was overtly for them. Those that did are called dictators. Think…Ghandi
2/ The possibility has to be bigger than what one person can achieve alone. If it was a solo effort how would you need others to become involved ?
3/ It shall be for the greater good of not just your group, tribe, race or creed but for the greatest good of humankind. Anything else ends up as being the slippery slope to conflict.
4/ Your Vision ( possibility..) must align with the dreams, ethics and values that are common to all of us. eg: Love, fairness, equality and freedom of choice…
5/ The vision should involve an element of courage on your part and empower others to feel courageous too. For example medicin sans frontiers
6/ The vision shall give people the possibility of being heroic in some way. Consider if you will what it took to stand in front of a tank in Tainamen Square. this is extreme I know but somebody got inspired enough to do it.
7/ The transforming leader will create possibilities that increase the choices for those that choose to follow them.
One of the other important things to consider is that until you have honed the skills needed to inspire others to take action you won’t have much impact. Ethical sales are very much part of what it takes to lead others.
The first sale is to you..! Only when you are certain that you are aligned with all of your values and with the ethics of your tribe can you have the positive impact you want to be.
Once you have done that and only after you have done that can you…
Allow yourself to dream big dreams. Massive visions.
But not for you alone.
Become the dreamer for your world.
Why must transforming leaders inspire others ?
http://transformingleaders.net/blog/2011/11/17/why-must-transforming-leaders-inspire-others/
Why must transforming leaders inspire others ? It may seem like a silly and obvious question but have you ever stopped to consider the answer ?
First before I answer the question let’s take a look at the environment that the world occupies right now.The average person in the street is BOMBARDED with over 10,000 bits of advertising every day. Things like posters, billboards, signage on shops and vehicles, advertisements in magazines, newspapers, fliers blowing down the street, TV and radio advertising. And then there’s the internet. banners, Google adsense, graphics and videos. Plus the ever present SPAM from some guy on Russia who’s trying to convince you you need to upgrade your sexual abilities. (Actually they do that on TV now too )
Now here’s the question for you.
How much of what this barrage of bull promises, do people really believe ?
What is the factor that seperates out the stuff they do believe from the tacky LOUD lies being pumped into their consciousness.
The answer is inspiration. Inspiration and perceived achievability. So what this means that while it may be possible for you, to climb Mount Everest, the odds are that your tribe may not. And why would they want to ? It’s cold and dangerous and there are no shops or restaurants there in which they can be seen being successful. It also requires planning and blocking out periods of time where they won’t be able to do normal things like spend time with the family.
So for your average Joe or Joanne in the street they’re not generally looking for anything too taxing. This is why retail therapy is one of the most popular sports on the planet. People get to play dress up and can pretend that they are rich, glamorous and desirable.
So I think we agree that Inspiring others to change their behaviour is an up hill task. It must either be something that they are motivated to do because of a perceived injustice ( Occupy Wall Street is an example of this. The Vietnam war was another ) or because of a shared sense of impending doom ( global warming ).
There is a third possibility and that is “The great transformation and redemption” ( charismatic Christianity and Islamic jihads ).
Getting kudos from great deeds done in the service of humankind is a combination of all of the above. Often this ocurs on an internal level in people and people such as Mother Theresa of Calcutta and Albert Schweitzer spring to mind. Thomas Jefferson and the other founders of the United States of America are examples of this.
They had a common enemy King George of England. ( The great injustice )
There was a seemingly impossible task ( the ordeal ) creating a seperate nation that was independent.
There would be a great transformation through the principles of freedom , liberty and equality.
It went beyond th egeographical boundaries or the USA and reached out to all the people of the Earth which means it transcended traditional boundaries of national identity . Eventually it transcended ( in theory anyway ) race and religion.
It was the classic example of loss and redemption. The heros Journey.
“The hero with a thousand faces” by Joseph Campbell is an excellent examination of this idea.
As you may have worked out there are many aspects that go to make up becoming a transforming leader and I intend to tease them out for you in future articles which I will publish.
If you want to contact me about anything written here you can do so via my contact page or by commenting below..

Most marketing relies on shotgun tactics.
People fire randomly at the crowd without knowing who or what their target audience is.The result is frustration on the part of the marketer and boredom (or worse) from the poor person who is getting this stuff rammed down their throat.
Imagine if you would, being in tune with someone's internal radio and that you are the station playing the music they are looking forward to listening to.

Why spend time tuning into your markets frequency? It sounds like a silly question but it's surprising how few businesses spend time on this.
And to do this effectively first YOU have to tune in to what your audience is transmitting to you...

n this 3rd video in my series on NLP training and useful ways you can use your brain.
I’m going to describe a simple way that you can use to work out whether your goals are going to be in your best interests. We often plan stuff out without considering the ecology of the plan or the results we will get.

In this 3rd video in my series on NLP training and useful ways you can use your brain. I’m going to describe a simple way that you can use to work out whether your goals are going to be in your best interests. We often plan stuff out without considering the ecology of the plan or the results we will get.
Ecology is the study of consequences. An example of this is the deforestation of the Amazon rain forest and the subsequent loss of up to 30% of that rich habitat through the process of erosion of topsoil and desertification.
Indigenous in Amazon Rainforest.

I describe how the way you say things to yourself will affect everything from your stress levels through to, well, everything.
If you follow the steps I describe I won’t guarantee you success. It’s just that you strongly increase the odds in your favour.
Check it out and remember to comment here on the blog and to like the video…
Thanks in advance and the sooner you start using this stuff the quicker you’ll get the results.
By the way my next video will be about how you can improve and increase your resources in five minutes or less. Anywhere, any time. How useful will that be to you ?

Charlie Chaplin Demonstrates NLP Congruence
NLP Congruence ?
The greatest speech ever made. Charlie Chaplin plays the great dictator and in the current state of our world I would urge you to watch and listen to what is actually a truly inspirational piece of oratory.
During the era of McCarthyism, Chaplin was accused of "un-American activities" as a suspected communist by J. Edgar Hoover. When Hoover learned of Chaplin's trip to England in 1952, he negotiated with the Immigration and Naturalization Service to revoke Chaplin's re-entry permit, exiling Chaplin so he could not return to the US for his alleged political leanings. In 1972, Chaplin was given special permission to come out of exile to accept the Honorary Academy Award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century". Stepping onto the stage of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Chaplin received the longest standing ovation in Academy Award history, lasting a full twelve minutes.
Chaplin talks of those who preach freedom and practice oppression. Of the soldiers who fight for freedom for those who would enslave the hearts minds and bodies of humanity.
He makes the spirit soar in this which in my humble opinion is Chaplins best ever performance. And that is because Charlie is speaking from his heart. He chose exile in Switzerland away from the bright lights because his political views did not match those of the establishment.
It is this that makes Charlie Chaplin so inspiring.
In NLP terms he is totally congruent. The conversations and beliefs he has are totally aligned with the words that he speaks.
Enjoy the inspiration from someone who was known as the funniest man on earth.

Behavioural Flexibility and NLP
NLP Courses Wellington

“Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.”
Bruce Lee
Martial Artist and Actor
Think about this and notice areas in your life where you could be more flexible. Then notice the difference in the results that you can get when you are more flexible in your attitude and your actions.
One of the presuppositions of NLP is that the system ( or person) with the most flexibility controls the system.
Now think about that !

NLP Persuasion
NLP Persuasion
Persuasion appears simple. And it is when you know how.
NLP persuasion is more than just words and smiles though both of those things do help.
But there is more. ! You see when you are congruent with not just yourself but also completely aligned with your market or audience things get so much easier.
To have those conversations with who and what they really want because you know who and what they really are can be challenging. That's why I spent years learning NLP persuasion.
You don't have to be curious about what else you can learn here. You are in charge of all your results after all. And it's not necessary to experience that you are right about that. If you want different results then come back here for more .

This is a test to see if we have to sink the boat
There is an expression in NLP called "sinking the boat".. We teach this in our NLP courses.
It refers to one of the NLP pre-suppositions that there is no such thing as failure, only feed back.
The story is that you are sailing your little yacht from say Auckland in New Zealand to Brisbane in Australia. After a few days you check your instruments and discover that you are actually on course for Sydney Australia. Not the destination you're aiming for. The question is
Do you sink the boat?
The obvious thing to do is to adjust your course until you are on the right heading for Brisbane again. And that's what you do.
Next morning you check your instruments again and discover your on perfect course for Cairns which as you probably know is well North of Brisbane. Once again the question is. Do you sink the boat ?
Of course not. You adjust your course so that you are aiming slightly further South and carry on sailing.
Next morning you awaken to find you are right outside Brisbane harbour but you are pointing at the wrong side of it. You are headed for the South side of the harbour and your Berth is on the North side.
Would you sink the boat?
Of course not. Once again you're going to slightly alter your course so that you are aiming for your destination.
The other part of this that many NLP trainers omit to tell you is that you need to know what your destination is before you start and you also need milestones or some way of knowing where you are in relation to that destination.
In my next post I'm going to talk about how you can define where you want to go in what we refer to as sensory specific terms.
You don't need to know what I mean by sensory specific for now as it will all be explained later...

Why NLP Courses Teach You About Congruence
Congruence is one of those non-obvious aspects of NLP courses that some folks manage to miss.
Have you ever experienced being in a state of flow where everything just fell into place? And the right place, at that.
A state in which every word you said had the precise effect you hoped it would and where people understood you totally. The state where you felt confident and comfortable and relaxed and everything just felt so easy. And in that state you were probably saying things to your self that were supportive and nurturing and loving, while other people around you were experiencing you as charismatic and trusted.
Most people have had that at one point in their life. Where it all just lines up, perfectly.
And have you ever watched somebody else ? Maybe it was a teacher or somebody doing a sales presentation or a parent with a child and they seemed to be doing all the right stuff. They were appeared to be saying the correct things and using all the correct postures. And despite doing all those correct things it wasn't effective because they weren't getting that result they seemed to want. And the less they got the result they wanted, the worse their performance became.
Have you ever seen that ?
Here's what is important about the two states I just described...
The first one is about internal experiences and I got you to think about the experience. I described how it felt from the perspective of your own experience of being in that state. How your body would feel and what you would say. The effect you are having on other people around you and you went inside your own mind and imagined that.
Because of the way that your brain is wired when I say to you "Can you remember a time when" ?, your mind automatically goes to a time such as the one i'm describing. If it can't find that experience in your memory then it goes right ahead and makes one up.
This is why the most effective marketing, political campaigns, teachings and movements, all get you to imagine what it will be like when you get (x). Imagination is a very powerful part of how humans operate. It's why we tell stories. Stories allow us to imagine.
From imagination we create reality...
Reality is based on your beliefs which comes from your perceived reality.
So what has this got to do with NLP and congruence.
Well, congruence is what makes the difference between the two results I described.
On an NLP course the trainer will be in a totally congruent and effective state. What this means is that their mind, body and emotions are all in the best state to deliver your training to you. This is done by using a proven methodology for teaching based on years of research, refinement and practice.
OK Mike but I'm not an NLP trainer ...
And that doesn't mean you can't apply these same NLP techniques to other areas in your life. If you're like most folks then you enjoy being in that flow state and flow is a pretty darn good description for congruence. If you enjoy being happy then think back to the last time you felt like that. You can probably also realise that you were in a state of flow.
Anyway please...!
I don't want you to imagine about what it's like to be in that flow state because you are already thinking it anyway.
Enjoy
Better Communication Skills? or A Necessary Paradigm Shift
I came across a video on YouTube today.
Sounds ordinary enough...?
Or is there more to this email ?
What's the...underlying reason that caused me to sit down and write to you today...
Well, it's like this...
For a long time I have avoided being political. ( mainly as a result of being well and truly stomped on by the system in the past whenever I was saying stuff they didn't like.)
More details later.
( maybe...!)
Just so you know, one of my deepest beliefs and values is that we MUST learn to cooperate betterif we are to survive as a species.
Please note the use of the word survivehere. And NO this is not just some impassioned plea to save the whales or any other single species.
This goes much deeper.
It's all about the deep psychological shifts that humankind needs to make to get to the next level.
We have a behaviour problem here on planet Earth.
And I hate to be the one to tell you but it's also a choice problem.
As a species and as individuals, both you and me chose a behaviour that was damaging to our home. Our planet.
And for a while we chose to ignore that because we were told that government and the financial system has the answers.
And we believed them.
BUT the truth is...
Our current behaviour is not useful for the long term sustainability of life.
Human life on planet earth is an option.
That's all it is. An option.
You are an evolutionary choice...
That's tough to consider but I believe it's true nonetheless.
You are at a decision point in your life.
We all are.
Nature doesn't care for your future here any more than it cared for the future of T Rex.
The difference between you and T Rex
is that you have a brain that's capable of creating choice AND you are still here.
NOW ...
at the moment we have systems in place that we use to run or manage our environment.
These systems are set up on the basis of competition, in just such a way, that there is inequality.
That inequality results in over 1 billion people living in poverty and starvation.
BUT the problem isn't a lack of food to feed them with...
It goes deeper...
It's all about beliefs and your psychology. The shift from a competition to a cooperation mindset.
And cooperation goes beyond mere sharing and management of resources.
Cooperation is and must become humanity's belief system. A value system.
A way of being for all of humanity, regardless of race, creed, financial status or any other BS idea you got taught about why other people are different to you.
Cooperation needs to be part of our conscious psychology as a species.
Think about the times when you are not happy...
Aren't they almost always times when there is a conflict going on.
It is your responsibility to take control of your environment which starts with your internal environment.
Your beliefs about what is possible.
Control of your environment includes controlling what you think, feel and do.
Despite what you may have been told... you... are the only person who has control over your beliefs and thoughts.
Those who tell you that you have no choice... USUALLY HAVE A VESTED INTERESTin keeping you right where you are !.
("That's your place. You better get used to it". "Hey we were always poor, dumb, downtrodden". "Your side of the family was/ is radee radee radee",)
All of the above are just BELIEFS.
Other peoples beliefs... about what is right for you. And you do not have to accept their beliefs.
I mean it positively flies in the face of what's written in the Constitution.
You have choice about what you will believe. What you can believe.
Yeah, I know it may sound difficult . But that's just another belief.
Another idea that YOU have about...
taking control of your own thoughts. Taking control of your life and destiny.
Taking control of your environment
But if Tony Robbins can do it then so can you!
If I can do it, so can you !
Doesn't mean you have to be a total master at it straight away.
It just means that you're willing to believe it's posssible to change what you believe.
If you are one of the few who don't think it's possible to change what you believe, from whatever you currently hold in your mind to something else, please do not read any further.
Instead consider...
what causes you to have such a limiting view.
Who or what told you to believe that you are powerless over your own mind and where THAT belief came from for them.
You can always hit the back button / unsubscribe.
I will be upset, knowing that yet another human being just gave up on possibility, themself and the whole future of the planet.
The rest of us will ask ourselves the question "Is there something more we can do to assist ?"
If you truly believe you are incapable of changing that one tiny belief don't even bother to get out of bed tomorrow.
Why waste energy ?
Speaking of which, for those of you who are still here with me. ..What does get you out of bed ?
What is the motivator for you that shifts you from that warmth and comfort to whatever you do when you get up.?
Once you are aware of that then you have tapped into the most powerful motivation on the planet.
So, spend some time really getting in touch with WHY you do what you do.
I have considered for some time how do we transition from where we are now to where we need to be as a species.
As part of our ecosystem.
We are after all, at a very basic level, just another item in the intricate biological soup that makes up life on this planet.
You of course are also infinite possibility in evolutionary motion.
You may be curious about what this all has to do with communication.
You can also be curious about How you can create the levels of cooperation needed to achieve survival.
Why did I just mentioned survival again?
Did you ever consider that perhaps, getting cooperation is the whole reason that you communicate in the first place ?
I mean why else did we go to all that troube of creating and refining language if not to get better cooperation with others ?
We are a social species and social implies cooperation and to do that we have to communicate clearly.
Think about it ! If you don't want or need something you don't speak or wave or do anything else to communicate with others.
Even a smile can fulfill the need to comfort or reassure another person (or yourself.)
So while you're thinking about what moves you from your bed every day I'd also invite you to really consider what results you want to get from communicating.
Consider also if your communication is getting you the results that you really really want. The environment you want. Internally and externally.
And if the answer is YES then
Watch...
If on the other hand the answer is NO then
Watch...
And by the time you have completed watching this you will know why I want you to be motivated. Why you need to be motivated. And most important of all. Why you need to believe that change is possible....
The tools for creating the necessary upgrades in awareness are about to come out of the lab here...

Here’s a short video I just uploaded to my YouTube Channel etrainingsystems YouTube
I talk about the six languages that your brain understands. No I don’t mean English or Hindi or Armenian.
I’m talking about visual, auditory, Kinaesthetic, olfactory, gustatory and auditory digital. These may not seem all that important to you at first glance.
As we go on together I intend to demonstrate that understanding how your “six senses” work are critical for being truly successful in every area of your life.
This is a brief intro to what I teach on my nlp courses and trainings but you can relax because there is nothing for sale here. Just lots more useful stuff that you can easily learn to begin getting what you want for your life.
PS: Please Remember to like this video. Thanks

Welcome back to video 2 in this series on how to use your brain effectively.
In this video I talk about how your brain distorts, deletes and generalises information it receives from your environment and how that information is not always correct.
Your brain creates your experiences of events based on what it has experienced and believes to be true from your past.
Seeing is not believing…!!
I’ll be loading up more information on this to http://nlp-courses.org over the next couple of weeks and how you can use what you will learn to your advantage.

NLP Courses Wellington
NLP courses Wellington Proudly presents an End to Manipulation...
Manipulation by whom specifically I hear you ask
They don't want you to be different. They want to keep you where you are now. Right beside them so they won't feel small and insignificant. So their egos will remain intact and they won't shed a tear for your wasted potential because they are SAFE.
Are you prepared to sacrifice everything that you could be and you would be for the sake of keeping somebody else feeling OK. ( and yet all the while knowing that they could do better but "HEY it's so much hassle" )
It's time to start considering your future and if you want to settle for mundane, ordinary and "so so"
So all I'll say is, "What's it like to know that you don't have to accept other people's plans for you and that you can think and decide what you want"?
Mike
PS The biggest barrier you have to getting what you want is what you've been listening to about yourself so far.
NLP courses Wellington for freedom from manipulation
NLP Courses Wellington
And we interupt this state to bring you a brief message from NLP courses wellington about a possible future you can choose..
NLP is about having the knowledge, tools and resources to achieve your goals in the quickest and easiest way possible.
How does it feel when you remember a time when you changed easily ?
It's not necessary to experience seeing things my way because you are in charge.
That's one of the mistruths that is put around about NLP. People who don't know about it always put it down. They claim that it's manipulative.
Maybe they're afraid of success or are just "content" and "They know their place in the scheme of things."
They probably have also decided your place in the scheme of things too...
It is said that behind every successful person there is a long line of people criticising them
And,
How surprised would you be when you discover you can change easily and feel incredibly in control ?
How To Have More Control Over The Decisions You Make – From The Inside Out with NLP
How To Have More Control Over The Decisions You Make –
From The Inside Out with NLP
Do you know the possible consequences your decisions are having in your business and in your life?
What if you could create new decisions that will give you a new direction in your business? If you think about decision making in context of your business, what is it that got you where you are today? If I may I would like to suggest that it’s the consistent decisions you made in the past have got you where you are today. And the consistent decisions you make today are going to determine where you end up tomorrow.
Would it be useful if you could make decisions that are more sound and more conscious? Decisions that are more precisely aimed at your vision, goals and dreams of your business?
Here’s the interesting thing: our decisions are driven by something deeper than our conscious thoughts. In fact, I would go so far and say that it’s our values and beliefs that determine our decisions.
Let’s have a look at values. The values we have are the things that are important to us. Take for example a person who values adventure and excitement, and another person who values security and comfort. You’ve got a great bungee jumping programme and invite both people along. What decision do you thing these two people are going to make?
I would suggest that that the person who values comfort and security would probably say no to your programme, while the person who values excitement and adventure will take you up on your invite with enthusiasm.
So, in your business, it’s the decisions you’re making that will be sending you and your business in a particular direction. The question is, in which direction are they sending you?
The Importance of Having a Vision
Something that I realised early on is that if you don’t have a vision for you business, your decisions are kind of hit and miss, and your direction for your business is hit and miss. You need to set up a target, a vision, for your direction, because then you can compare and contrast your decisions with that target, your vision. This in turn will allow you to make more precise decisions. And this means that it will allow you to determine whether your decisions take you closer or further away from where you want to go.
The Importance of Knowing Your Values
And this is where our values come in. As we’ve seen, our decisions are influenced by the values we hold. The trick is, how do we uncover values? Your values are so deeply embedded inside you, they were formed when you grew up, and most of us still operated from these values. This is because we haven’t upgraded our values, we haven’t taken a deeper look at what values are stopping us and which ones are empowering us or propelling us forwards.
Do you know your values? What if you knew the deeper structure of what’s creating your decisions? Your values become a precision compass that directs your decisions towards your vision and goals of your business and towards business success.
From the inside out
Here’s an exercise you can do to find out your values. You can take any area of your life, such as your family, your relationship, your health, your career or business, you name it. For now, let’s keep it in context and take your business.
1. What’s important to you about your business? Write down everything that is important to you about your business. It could be anything, don’t censor anything and just let your imagination take over. When you can’t think of anything anymore, ask the question again: What’s important to me about my business? Write down some more as it comes to mind, and ask the question again.
2. Now, go through your list of values and select the top 20. Of these top 20, select the top 10 things that are most important to you, the ones you just can’t go without. Remember, it’s not finding what you value. It’s about finding what you value most.
3. For this next step, it is easiest if you write your top 10 values on post-it notes, one value on each note. This will make it easier to sort them in order of importance. Order your values with the most important value on the top, the least important at the bottom. Then, take the first value and ask yourself, is the first value more important then the second value or is the second value more important than the first value. Do this for each of the 10 values, re-ordering if necessary.
Be willing to be surprised.
It may be that you had never realised how important something was until this exercise.
When you now look at what you value most about your business, your top 10 values for your business, are the decisions you make each day aligned with your values? Or do you need to make some adjustments to your decisions so that they fulfil your values? Once your business decisions are aligned with your values, your business will make an amazing leap to success .

Creating Better Business with NLP

Subject: Wanton Experimentation with Jezebel in the back of...
To: communicationskillstraining@posterous.comIt makes you think doesn't it. WANTON !
What a powerful and evocative word. Images of wickedness and unbridled lust. Fornication, even.
Jezebel you have got So much to answer for.
you gotta love it. You really do...
The way that your mind can conjure up all those states, emotions and reactions to mere groups of symbols and spaces.
So what else could YOU do with that sort of ability.
Imagine how useful this ability is for you to do useful things with your mind.
There is so much more to life than mere reaction...(Despite what governments say...)
What would you rather be doing with YOUR brain?
Legislation that affects how UK practitioners advertise....
Here is a link about advertising legislation that will cover NLP in the UK very shortly. Please be aware that the web is becoming more and more regulated and this is a follow on action from what happened in the USA with the increased powers of the FTC. ( federal Trade Commision ) which put some quite draconian restrictions on advertising online.
It's only a matter of time before it happens here. The medical establishment has invested big bucks and isn't about to surrender any part of that investment to folks who actually understand how the brain works.
I would draw your attention to the bottom of Nick's post where he states that you must have certain pages on your website.
ie: A privacy policy, terms of use, about us and contact us. The last one isn't compulsory in the eyes of Google. It's just common sense.

Relationship communication from a weird perspective ?
Relationship communication can be tricky. It is a curious way to start an article but consider this. Relationships involve people. That's a statement of the obvious I know and sometimes things that are obvious are completely missed.
You are a unique human being. The people that you are in relationships with are also human beings and also unique. Every one of you has been brought up in a unique environment known as a family that is composed of other unique individuals.
We come into this world in a manner that is somewhat random. By random, I mean we have little choice about the human beings who will be guiding us towards becoming adults. We do not know what beliefs they may have and we do not know if those beliefs and the resulting actions, will be effective in dealing with the world out there. Worse still, we have no idea whatsoever about how well what we are being taught will enable us to cope with other human beings.
Given the apparent randomness of human up bringing, it is a miracle that we are not rushing to push "the button" every 5 min. So what's is it that binds us together as a species? What is it that brings you together with another person in a relationship?
A lot depends on what you focus on. It is rumoured that leaving the top off of the toothpaste tube is one of the leading causes of divorce. This is of course complete fabrication. The leading cause of problems in relationship communication is bad focus.
Good communication comes from focusing on the things that work for both of you and for the relationship. By switching your focus from the top on the toothpaste tube, to appreciative remarks, and by focusing on the good things, your perspective changes.
You entered into a relationship with some common goals and some common benefits you were seeking. Pause and consider them for a moment.
When you enter into a relationship with someone, by which I mean a positive and cooperative relationship, you probably did so because you and the other person had congruent values. You both decided that what was important to the other person was also important to you. You shared beliefs about what is right and good. Values are the clearing in the middle of forest where we can all come together and meet.Shared values are that place in a relationship which does not have any conflict. Values are the safe space where you feel secure about being yourself.
Because those shared values create a safe space for you, you can be yourself and you don't have to prove anything to anyone. Discovering the shared values you have with another human being is one of the quickest way to build trust, rapport and understanding. Without trust, rapport and understanding you will not experience the relationship you really want.
To improve your relationships communication, I would recommend what you do is to simply ask a question. The question is "What is most important to you?"
You can also ask if the other person has those qualities in their life and if the answer is no, I'm going to suggest you offer to help them achieve that.
Relationship communication is about creating cooperation. Cooperation can only come from understanding and understanding can only come from appropriate questioning, respect and trust.

What Can Your Right Arm Teach You About Better Communication Skills Training? Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6184076
Few people realise the importance of communication skills training. Many of you live your life believing that the fact that you can all speak the language of the land you live in constitutes having communication skills. For those of you who have ambitions beyond being Mr Average, or the guy next door, this is your lucky day.
Good communication skills comes from study followed by a diligent and persistent practice. I am not going to kid you that this is like the red pill you take in the matrix and all of a sudden you have supernatural powers. Life just isn't like that. If you want something in life that is different, if you want something that is better and above and beyond what you've got now, you have to do something different.
You may have heard, it is not what you know it's who you know. Though this is, in my experience true, there is also a common misconception that many people have. That misconception is that you have to know the rich and famous to become rich and famous. Not true. To become rich and famous or even just slightly popular, all you have to do is to be able to communicate the value you will deliver to people, in a clear and concise manner.
That value can take many forms. The value you provide can be anything from a great product or great service to simply being a great employee. Research shows that the more you give the more you get. So hopefully you are beginning to see that there are benefits in communicating your value to the world to others. And hopefully you can also see that the better you are at communicating that value, the more you are going to get back. For it is written, as "As ye sow,so shall ye reap."
There are other benefits to having excellent communication. Not least amongst these, is the fact that you spend less time fighting for your corner and defending your territory. Because your relationships are more harmonious with others, it means that you will be more relaxed.
Research has shown that when you are relaxed you not only live a longer life, you also live a happier life. Unless you are some sort of a hermit you're going to end up being more popular and being perceived as a trusted, go to guy or gal.
Even if you are a hermit, with your improved communication skills you will be better able to commune with nature and the birds and bees. And with your self too.
Think about it.
Communication skills training goes way beyond what you say and do with others. Good communication skills training should also show you how to communicate effectively and clearly with yourself.
This can be demonstrated through an NLP exercise known as the pointing exercise. We use this exercise or activity at the start of every training, every public presentation and every consultation. But we do why do we do this?
The exercise involves telling participants to hold out their left arm and then to twist round so that their arm points at a place in the room behind them. "But only until things get tight. We don't want them to do anything that may compromise their safety."
They are then asked to look along their arm and to take a "mental picture" of where they are looking at.
Next, participants are invited to close their eyes and to imagine them self going round further. They are asked to imagine what else they will see when they look along their arm. What will be new? What will they feel in their new and more supple body? What will they hear other people saying about their wonderful new flexibility? And what will they say to them self?
By suggesting how much further people can twist their body round, something remarkable happens. When they are asked to twist round a second time the majority of people, regardless of age or gender can twist a further metre. ( Approximately 1 yard )
The reason is quite simple.
The pointing exercise demonstrates in a graphic and kinaesthetic format how the mind and the body of one system. By altering what you say yourself and how you say it to yourself you can get radically improved results.
I would invite you try this out for yourself. Just remember to only go round until it gets tight.
Once you become aware of this it is easier for you to be mindful about how you talk yourself and also to gain more control over the results that you are getting in life.
This isn't some woo woo, way out, flaky hippie theory.
This is based on solid scientific research that has been carried out the last century and goes right back to the father modern psychology William James.
William James talks about this stuff in his 1896 book "Psychology" volumes one and two.
You know that there are things you can do, today right now, to start to get the life you really want. You may not believe me. That is okay.
What is important is that you have the courage to go beyond whatever is holding you in your current state. Remember it's all just an idea in your head. Perhaps you are neither unhappy or dissatisfied. That is really great
Does that mean that you can't imagine your life being any better, on any level, in any aspect at all? Unless you gave a clear and unequivocal yes to the last question there may be something here for you to learn, as well.
As the British SAS say, "Who dares wins!"
Michael Noone is a communication skills specialist and NLP trainer living in Thailand with his partner Evelyne Draper. They have worked together for many years teaching clear communication which leads to trust and understanding between people. The net result is cooperation...the place where conflict disappears and shared, common values become the driver for everyone. Assertive Communication
Many people confuse assertive communication with being right. They focus on winning instead of focusing on the result that they really want to achieve. As a result of this people don't listen to what is being said. The result of this is that they do not understand what the other person is trying to communicate to them. This is precisely where the whole conversation starts to break down.
From a very early at each we are taught that it is wrong to cooperate. What do I mean by that? When you go to school you are taught don't copy Johnny or Susie's work. You are taught that sharing resources and ideas is somehow cheating. You are taught that this is bad. I'm not one hundred percent sure what the psychological effect of this mindset is on a young brain but I suspect it is not good. The reason we look over their shoulder of other people is because we want to learn.
I believe that at a deep level this sets up divisions on an emotional and psychological level. We are also taught that you have an inherent rights to not share that which is important to you. This comes from beliefs about scarcity and lack. Scarcity and lack set the ground for conflict and the need for assertiveness comes out of a belief that there is in fact a conflict.
Scarcity, lack and conflict are all just the need for assertive communication is just a belief in our society. We are taught that children must be trained. We are not taught that children must be guided towards being able to make better decisions.
A belief in scarcity and lack lead to resentment and insecurity. People don't feel good about themselves and they go into fight or flight responses. Both the fight and the flight response are defensive and at the end of the day what are you defending? On many levels you are merely defending your ego. Your position. Your view.
Why do you want to go through all of the rollercoaster emotions involved in using assertive communication? Is there a degree of addiction to being right?
These are radical ideas. My views do not set into those of the establishment. I believe we are taught from an early age how to not cooperate with one another beyond what is absolutely necessary to sustain life. I also believe we are taught, subtly how to be in conflict with one another.
Before you reach for your arsenal of assertive communication skills stop for a moment and consider this.
What is the outcome but I want to get from this conversation, this interaction, this dialogue and how can I do this most easily? How can I not only get this result for myself but also for the other person?
By operating from this win-win mindset not only do we both get what we want. Neither of us has to feel resentment, or plan revenge at the earliest opportunity.
Try out this new mindset. By doing so you'll be amazed at the results that you are going to get.
